Thank you for this – and highlighting the double standard so heartbreakingly. There is another double standard, too, which we like to overlook – every effort being made to save the life of a pre-term baby, while just along the corridor, the life of child of the same age is deliberately ended, through abortion. When a child is a commodity to be bought, and which a mother is prepared to sell, or a baby's value and right to life depends on being wanted, we live in very dangerous times.
Surrogacy is disgusting and evil. It is an abomination and goes contrary to every law of nature; it should be made illegal and those who engage in it punished harshly.
This is a fallacy of reason. The child was born as a commodity. What already is cannot be changed, but in future the monetization and commodification of children should be seen for the shameful evil that it is. This is the same as the reasoning that declares that it's a mercy to abort a baby because the circumstances of its birth would mean it experienced suffering in life. Murder is evil. Justifying murder is being complicit in evil. Surrogacy should be illegal. A civilization with morals and scruples would find this whole process repugnant.
Yes, it probably is better that they never existed. Two gay men can't get pregnant and need to wake up and realize that if you're going to be gay you don't get to be a dad, let alone a mom.
I do not believe that bringing a child into this world just to tear it from its mother and give it over to two homosexuals that will abuse it from birth is a good thing, no. That sounds a lot like evil to me.
Yes. We should set up baby farms. Every woman of child bearing age should be expected to birth at least 4 babies. Otherwise those babies will not be born!! Let’s just keep pumping out as many babies as possible.
I just can’t get over the fact that we had all this broo-haha over the Handmaid’s Tale book/TV show, and yet our culture is ignoring and shoving aside the actual instances where this is happening.
Well, some of them have canceled me, yes. For instance, I'm staunchly against the "transgender" cult and have been trying to fight it for years. I've lost friendships over it.
I also believe in free speech. Really believe in it, as opposed to so many of my liberal confrères who only believe in the speech they approve of. I loathe identity politics and think it's inimical to a democratic society.
So yeah, I guess you could say I've been canceled here and there.
Then you've made a good start. The fact that the left can't tolerate dissent exposes it for the cult that it is. Like islam, the left is absolute in its edicts. You're not really a leftist. You're an individual with your own thoughts and feelings trying to reason your way through life. I wish you well, and I wish you wisdom and understanding as only God can give them.
Well, cultish behavior exists everywhere along the political, ideological, religious spectrum. Everywhere. Look at the MAGA cult. And yes, I regard it as a cult. Trump is the Supreme Leader.
I have many Muslim friends in Morocco, a country I adore and where I've been many times. They are all reasonable, rational people.
This isn't just a leftist problem. I know a woman who's very conservative socially on every issue except this one-- her two youngest children were born via an agency surrogate in Ukraine. Dave Rubin is THE example of someone who leans right politically who has used a surrogate, and Elon Musk...I'm not sure what he is politically, but he and Trump have been allied together, and he's got his whole quasi-harem, paying women to have his babies thing going on for awhile.
Not to mention the "big beautiful bill" included a ton of funding for reproductive technology-- that will probably be used in at least the occasional case with a surrogate.
I've been thinking a lot recently about how women are increasingly being commodified in our society, and indeed commodifying themselves. This article reminds me, in the most heart-wrenching way, that babies are being commodified too. I mean, how utterly sick and inhuman is that?! But this is where we've come as a society in the name of 'human progress' and liberation. It's just too awful for words.
If abortion had been legal the year I was born I wouldn't be here. When I was born my poor mom was so distressed that I was alive that she had a breakdown. Her parents took in my older sister because she was the first grandchild and they loved her, but no one wanted me. My dad took me on a bus to his step parents. Without asking in advance he knocked on the door and handed me to them. I have no idea who fed me or cared for me before I got to their house, so the first days of my life were spent in this sort of limbo of neglect. I spent my childhood unaware of myself, shy, and struggling to connect with people I always felt the Presence of God, and that was my comfort in life. My dad, George's step parents took good care of me, but after months of my mom being in the mental hospital the doctor insisted I be brought to the hospital to force her to recover. So, from the time I was six months old I lived in a mental hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA with my mom and the other patients until my mom recovered enough to leave the hospital. It has taken me almost my entire life to understand myself and the dysfunctional aspects of my personality that grew out of this inauspicious beginning. Babies need a mother and father. They should have rights the first and most important being the right to life. But, most of all, our country, our world, needs Jesus. Humanity needs the Divine Wisdom, the Divine Understanding, the Divine Love, and the Divine Mercy that can only come from Jesus Christ.
When I was in college, I fit the profile of desirable sperm donors: hi IQ , athletic , blue eyed blond, physical attributes, excellent health record. I knew guys who took advantage of the recruitment for the money. Never considered it as I believed I would have a child in the world who I'd never know and they'd never know who their father was. If I was married and we had to use invitro for my wife to get pregnant I'd be seen as the father. If a woman had a one night stand and got pregnant , the guy would be the father.
Guys have too often been reduced to being just "sperm donors" and I think part of reducing the role and importance of fathers. I can not imagine what women go through who have essentially sold their baby and given up their claim of as being a mother. I think the whole system needs to be seriously looked at, and that includes freezing eggs and sperms for future use as a means of convenance . This is a subject frought with difficult discussions and will become increasingly more so as medical technology advances allow for greater selection of sperm and eggs. Just because something can be done does not mean that it is morally right to do so. This is going to become a far bigger issue.
I was baby #1. 56 years later there's still a pain that will never go away, that's taken me decades to come to terms with. Baby #2 hurts my heart. While I wish I would have been put up for adoption (my paternal grandparents kept me) and had some sort of chance at a semi-"normal" life, the pain of abandonment is always there. You can feel it. I doubt having been sold instead of just left would have made it feel any better.
That's a good point because the strongest sperm makes it to the ova. Also, people are attracted for subconscious reasons involving immunology, not just for conscious reasons. During conception there's a sort of conversation between the chromosomes of the mother and father bringing some traits forward while sublimating others.
Ultimately, the whole thing flies in the face of the sacred aspects of love and conception as illustrated in the birth of Christ. God honors and loves women and their ability to carry life within them so much that He didn't come to humanity through a volcano, a bolt of lightening, an earthquake or a tidal wave. He didn't come crashing down in a ball of fire from the heavens. He was born as a baby to a woman, belonging to life and life belonged to Him, wanting to love and be loved like every baby ever born into this world. In doing this He showed mankind that motherhood, nativity, the family and the birth of a baby are sacred things honored by God.
These things meant to work outside of that desecrate what God loves most.
I read the King James Bible when I was 14 and found nothing to indicate these things in it. People will say all sorts of stuff, but it doesn't make it so, and it certainly doesn't make it Christian.
She's not a "mom," you thoughtless NPCs, she's a mother, and they are not "dads." Her baby was not traded for cash, she traded it for cash. JFC, did everyone just walk off of the set of Idiocracy or what.
This is amazingly articulate and well-written. Thank you for pointing out what should be obvious inconsistencies in the way society thinks and operates
Pete Buttigieg is looking at a run for President in 2028. In 2021 he got 2 twins from surrogacy. Supposedly, his name & his homosexual partner's name is on the birth certificate. The mother? It's as if she never existed, as Buttigieg insists he and his partner are the parents. Who will call him out for disrespecting the mother of those children?
DNA Denial? And if those children want to know if they inherited a medical condition from their mother, they'll have to do it through a DNA match to find the mother. That is unless Buttigieg & partner do the big reveal.

Would you apply the same logic to argue that rape is good?
Nope
I don't see how the logic is different.
Yes. We should set up baby farms. Every woman of child bearing age should be expected to birth at least 4 babies. Otherwise those babies will not be born!! Let’s just keep pumping out as many babies as possible.
Why are you even commenting this?
I just can’t get over the fact that we had all this broo-haha over the Handmaid’s Tale book/TV show, and yet our culture is ignoring and shoving aside the actual instances where this is happening.
When the left said "every accusation is a confession" they were talking about themselves.
I'm a leftist and I abhor surrogacy. I think it should be illegal.
Maybe be careful about casting stones.
You're fellow leftists haven't cancelled you yet? Or are you just a glutton for punishment?
Ha!
Well, some of them have canceled me, yes. For instance, I'm staunchly against the "transgender" cult and have been trying to fight it for years. I've lost friendships over it.

Sweeping generalizations help no one.
And judging by your profile, you appear to have doubled down on every other leftist form of idiocy in an attempt to compensate.
That's your interpretation.
This isn't just a leftist problem. I know a woman who's very conservative socially on every issue except this one-- her two youngest children were born via an agency surrogate in Ukraine. Pray for these children.
The miracles of modern medicine

Seems that surrogacy meets the literal definition of slavery, ie, a human being sold for money to another human being.
Dress it up any way you'd like, but those infants are being sold.
Some kind of hell awaits the participants.
Thank you for calling out this heartbreaking double standard.

I wish I could give you a hug.
I know a family who had a surrogacy pregnancy with ivf.
The child has sensory integration issues.
Evolutionarily, aren’t we making ourselves weaker?

This is beautiful and touching. But also, some holy people are said to be demigods born of a human mother and a supernatural father of another sort.
I read the King James Bible when I was 14 and found nothing to indicate these things in it. People will say all sorts of stuff, but it doesn't make it so, and it certainly doesn't make it Christian.
Yes, it’s not Christian. I don’t think that that makes it bad.
I'm sorry. I don't know enough about the subject to expand on what I've already said. I wish you well.
She's not a "mom," you thoughtless NPCs, she's a mother, and they are not "dads." Her baby was not traded for cash, she traded it for cash. JFC, did everyone just walk off of the set of Idiocracy or what.
All sides are valid
Mistakes were made. We’re all learning together.
What is true Equality?🟰
If people wanted equality they wouldn't buy lottery tickets.

Oh.
Oh dear where are we all going.
You are so right....'I want, therefore I get...' self centred immature adults
Oh dear.
